Instructions

How To Make Drunken Hennessy French Toast

  • First, start by cutting each slice of bread into 4 equal sized sticks.
  • In a bowl, combine the milk, eggs, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract and Hennessy. Whisk the ingredients together until fully incorporated.
  • Dip the sticks of bread into the egg mixture, coating all sides.
  • Add butter to a pan over medium low heat.
  • Once the butter has melted, place the French toast sticks in the pan to cook.
  • Cook the drunken French toast for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown, flipping half way through the cooking process.
  • Make the Hennessy syrup and serve immediately.

How To Make Cognac Syrup

  • Add water, brown sugar and white granulated sugar to a sauce pan over medium high heat. Mix frequently so that the sugar does not burn.
  • Once the sugars have dissolved completely, stir in the vanilla extract and bring to a boil.
  • Immediately remove from the heat upon boiling and pour in the Hennessy or cognac of choice.
  • Allow the syrup to cool completely and thicken.
  • Top with powdered sugar and drizzle the syrup over the French toast sticks or serve on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Any kind of sliced bread you have on hand will work. Brioche bread will certainly kick it up a notch though.
  • Keep an eye on the French toast sticks when cooking and flip after the first 3-4 minutes or when the bottom is golden brown.
  • Hennessy works well but other cognac brands will get the job done.
