KFC Onion Rings

These copycat KFC onion rings are extra crispy and perfectly seasoned with a Kentucky Fried Chicken copycat seasoning. Dip them into your favorite sauce and enjoy them right at home.

  • Heat the oil to 365 – 370 degrees F in a pot.
  • Cut the onions into 1/4 inch round slices and separate the rings from each other.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg to combine.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and KFC seasoning.
  • Coat the onion slices in the the flour mixture first and set aside.
  • Combine all of the leftover flour mixture with the buttermilk and egg mixture in the same bowl. Mix until well incorporated.
  • Pour the panko bread crumbs into a separate bowl.
  • Dip the rings into the buttermilk batter and allow the excess to drop off.
  • Coat the rings in Panko Bread Crumbs and transfer to the hot oil to fry. Do not over crowd.
  • Fry for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden.
  • Transfer the KFC onion rings to a paper towel lined plate to drain the excess oil.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use a deep frying thermometer for best results.
  • Don’t over crowd the pan or the oil’s temperature will drop.
  • The onions cook quickly so keep an eye one them.
  • Sweet onions work best for this recipe.
