These fluffy buttermilk air fryer chocolate chip muffins make for a delicious breakfast treat on the go.
Whenever I make muffins now, I must use buttermilk. Buttermilk makes the softest, fluffiest muffins ever. And some people do ask, why make muffins in the air fryer? The answer is simple. It’s so quick, easy and you don’t have to heat up the house with the oven. These chocolate chip muffins in the air fryer were no exception to all of the tasty muffins I’ve made in the past and they were absolutely light, sweet and chocolatey. I also recommend trying these Air Fryer Banana Muffins and Air Fryer Blueberry Muffins if you enjoy baking in your air fryer.

An Explanation Of The Ingredients
- Flour – Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Baking Powder – The right amount of baking powder will help the chocolate chip muffins rise.
- Salt – All you need is a pinch of salt.
- Sugar – White granulated sugar works well for this recipe.
- Egg – Whisk the egg into the batter.
- Buttermilk – Muffins made with buttermilk are super soft, fluffy and light.
- Oil – I prefer oil over butter in most of my baked goods because they come out nice and moist.
- Vanilla Extract – I love the flavor the vanilla extract adds.
- Chocolate Chips – Fold the chocolate chips into the muffin batter using a spatula.
This is what the muffin batter should look like.
Place the muffins inside of the air fryer and cook.

Which Muffin Pan Should I Use?
The type of muffin pan you should use in your air fryer can vary greatly based on the size of your air fryer. However, I like using these single muffin pans because they will work well for any size. I recommend buying at least 6 so that you can bake multiple muffins or cupcakes inside of your air fryer. You can also purchase this standard sized muffin pan if you prefer, just make sure it fits inside of your air fryer.
What Kind Of Chocolate Works Best?
I really enjoy baked good with semi-sweet chocolate chips so that’s what I always use. However, you may use milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even white chocolate chips if you prefer.
Storing Suggestions
Store completely cooled chocolate chip muffins in an air tight container at room temperature. I recommend adding a piece of paper towel inside of the container to catch extra condensation released from the muffins. You can store them for up to 5 days for best results. You may also store air fried muffins in the freezer. Just make sure to wrap them tightly with plastic wrap, then place inside of an air tight container and freeze for up to 2 months.
Recipe Notes
- Check for doneness around the 13 minute mark by inserting a toothpick down the center of a muffin. If the toothpick comes out clean (disregard the chocolate) then it’s ready.
- You may use a hand mixer or stand mixer to make these air fryer muffins. However, I prefer to whisk by hand to ensure I do not over mix. If you do use a mixer, make sure to mix on low speed.
- I like using these single muffin pans for my air fryer because it fits inside of almost any air fryer. However, you may also use this standard muffin pan as well, just make sure it will fit inside of your air fryer.
