These air fryer hush puppies are made from scratch in less than 30 minutes.
This recipe is packed with flavor and a little kick. Hush puppies are best served with seafood like this air fryer catfish or air fryer calamari. I added cayenne pepper to this recipe for maximum flavor. If you don’t like spice, reduce the quantity or simply omit it to make these air fried hush puppies to your liking.

- Flour – Whisk the flour together with the other dry ingredients.
- Corn Meal – Ground yellow corn meal works best.
- Baking Powder – The baking powder will help the hush puppies puff up nicely.

- Pour in the buttermilk, oil and add in the egg. Whisk together until fully combined.
- Finely grate or mince the onion and fold it into the batter using a spatula so you don’t over mix.
- Spray the inside of the air fryer with cooking spray.
- Scoop about 2 tbsp of batter into dollops and place inside the air fryer. You may use parchment paper if you’d like just make sure to spray the paper with cooking spray as well.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Flip them over for the last minute of cooking. Mine were done in 8 minutes but this may vary depending on the power of your air fryer.
