How To Make Air Fryer Shrimp Fajitas
- First, start by seasoning the peeled and deveined shrimp or prawns with lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, fajita seasoning, smoked paprika and salt. Mix together to combine.
- Next, chop the onion. Remove the seeds and chop the poblano pepper and bell peppers. Add the peppers and onions to the shrimp marinade and mix to coat everything with the marinade.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F for 5 minutes.
- Add the shrimp, peppers and onions to the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes. Open the air fryer and either shake the basket or give the ingredients a good mix half way through so they cook evenly.
- Warm your tortillas either in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 3-4 minutes or in the pan. I personally prefer warming them in a pan on the stove over medium high heat for about 2 minutes on each side.
- Finally, serve the shrimp fajitas with sliced avocado, sour cream, fresh cilantro, fresh lime juice or any other topping of your choice.
Make Your Own Fajita Seasoning
If you don’t have fajita seasoning on hand, you can make your own with a combination of spices. In a bowl, mix together 1 tbsp of chili powder and 1 tsp of the following ingredients: paprika powder, ground black pepper, onion powder, white granulated sugar, salt and granulated garlic. This fajita seasoning mix will give you exactly 3 tbsp which is what you will need for this recipe.
Tips & Variations For Making Air Fryer Shrimp Fajitas
- Always read your air fryer manual before using it. There are many different brands so cooking times may vary. I recommend checking for doneness around the 12 minute mark.
- I prefer warming my tortillas on the stove. However if you decide to warm them in the air fryer, you may need to use a toothpick to secure them in place so they do not fly around during the cooking process. This will not be applicable to every air fryer.
- Buy peeled and deveined shrimp or prawns to make life easier. However, if your shrimp has not been peeled and deveined, make sure to do that before seasoning it. I also prefer cooking the shrimp with the tail on as it holds a lot of flavor. I remove the tails before serving the fajitas but you can remove them before seasoning the shrimp if you prefer.
