These Brazilian Chocolate Truffles or Brigadeiros are made with just 5 ingredients. Brigadeiros are little Brazilian chocolate truffles or fudge balls that are made with sweetened condensed milk, chocolate and lots of adorable sprinkles. They’re commonly enjoyed at special occasions like birthday parties, baptisms, you name it. We usually make a big batch of these brigadieros and serve to all our family and friends. If you enjoyed this gourmet quality brigadeiro recipe, you will definitely love this Passion Fruit Mousse (Mousse de Maracuja) and this Guava Cheesecake.

This gourmet brigadeiro recipe is so easy to make and has been in my family for generations. I love a good Brazilian chocolate recipe with lots of sweetened condensed milk and we have plenty of them. If you really love a good brigadieros recipe, then making a brigadeiro cake is a must! Once you try a traditional brigadeiro chocolate cake, you definitely won’t want to celebrate your birthday any other way.
Ingredients
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Butter
- Nesquick Powder
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Chocolate Sprinkles
How to Make Brazilian Chocolate Truffles
- First, start by greasing a plate with butter. This will prevent the cooked Brigadeiro fudge from sticking to your plate after you transfer it there.
- In a sauce pan over medium heat, combine your sweetened condensed milk, butter, Nesquick powder and unsweetened cocoa powder. Mix very well and no matter what, do not stop mixing!
- After approximately 15 minutes of mixing, you will see that your mixture will begin to thicken. You’ll know it’s ready when it begins to hold its’ shape and resembles a thick paste rather than a liquid form. You should be able to run your spatula through the middle of your mixture without it coming back together for at least 3 seconds once it’s ready.
- Pour your mixture onto the greased plate you prepared earlier.
- Cool the brigadeiro mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Pour the sprinkles into a bowl with enough space for you to roll your Brigadeiros into little fudge balls.
- Prepare the decorative candy cups that will hold the brigadieros.
- Remove the chocolate truffle mixture from the refrigerator.
- Grease your hands with butter. The butter will keep the mixture from sticking to your hands when rolling.
- Scoop the brigadeiro mixture using a tbsp and roll into a ball.
- Roll the brigadeiro over the sprinkles, covering any exposed spots.
- Finally, place your finished gourmet brigadeiros into the decorative candy cups and enjoy!
How to Store Brigadeiros
Store the brigadieros in an air tight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also store them in the refrigerator in an air tight container for up to 7 days. I don’t recommend freezing the Brazilian chocolate truffles because the texture won’t be the same once they defrost.
Tips & Variations
- Substitute the Nesquick I used in this recipe for cocoa powder if you prefer the richer, deeper chocolate taste. My family prefers a lighter, sweeter taste therefore, I use the Nesquick powder together with the unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Eat the fudge with a spoon right out of the bowl if you don’t feel like going through the extra trouble of rolling them into little truffles.
- Substitute the chocolate sprinkles for colorful sprinkles or any color sprinkle of you choice to spice up this gourmet brigadeiro recipe.
