These instant pot donuts are made with chocolate boxed cake mix in the egg bite mold, so easy even the kids can help.

For this recipe, I modified the instructions on the cake mix box because I wanted to make sure the donut holes were light and fluffy on the inside. I topped them with melted white chocolate and crushed candy cane for a delicious holiday treat. Donut holes made in the instant pot make a wonderful breakfast that the kids can enjoy on Christmas morning with a glass of this decadent Instant Pot Hot Chocolate. If this is your first time using the instant pot to make sweets, you’re going to want to try these Instant Pot Strawberry Brownies and this Instant Pot RumChata Cheesecake as soon as possible.

Let’s Talk About The Ingredients

  • Boxed Cake Mix – I’m using chocolate cake mix for this recipe but you may substitute for vanilla or any other cake flavor you enjoy.
  • Water, Oil, Egg – Mix water, oil and egg with the cake mix until fully combined.
  • White Chocolate Chips – Melt the white chocolate in the microwave in 30 second intervals until fully melted.
  • Candy Canes or Sprinkles – Crush the candy canes and top the donuts with them or use any variety of sprinkles you’d like.
The ingredients needed for this recipe are boxed chocolate cake mix, white chocolate chips, egg, water, oil and candy canes.

Place the batter inside of the molds and lower into the instant pot to cook.

This is how you lower the egg bite molds into the instant pot to cook.

How To Make Instant Pot Donuts

  1. First, start by combining the cake mix, water, oil and egg in a mixing bowl. Whisk the ingredients together until fully combined.
  2. Spray the egg bite molds with non stick cooking spray.
  3. Use a small cookie scoop to fill the egg bite molds about 3/4 of the way full with the batter.
  4. Cover the egg bite molds with the silicone cover they came with or aluminum foil if you don’t have a cover.
  5. Add water to the instant pot. Check notes below for quantities.
  6. Place the egg bite molds on the trivet or on a sling if you have one and lower them into the instant pot.
  7. Close the lid and cook on high pressure for 12 minutes. Allow for a 3 minute natural release once they finish cooking and then quick release any remaining pressure.
  8. Open the lid and remove the donuts from the instant pot. Uncover and let them cool completely while still inside of the egg bite molds before trying to remove them.
  9. Pour the white chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals until fully melted, stirring in between each interval.
  10. Remove the donut holes from the molds once they have fully cooled and top with the melted white chocolate and crushed candy cane. You may use a spoon for this or just dip them right into the white chocolate if you prefer.
  11. Allow the donuts some time for the white chocolate to dry and serve once ready.

Modifications

You can modify this recipe according to preference or the season. Substitute the crushed candy cane for other holiday sprinkles like Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Easter, etc. Use a different kind of boxed cake mix like strawberry, vanilla, white cake, you get the drift.

Delicious donut holes made in the pressure cooker for Christmas morning breakfast.

Recipe Notes

  • For water quantities, use 1 cup for a 6 qt, 1.5 cups for an 8 qt and 2 cups for a 10 qt.
  • Do not over fill the egg bite molds because the donuts will rise while being cooked in the instant pot.
  • It is very important to wait until the donut holes have completely cooled before removing them from the molds otherwise they will break apart if still hot.
  • Always read the instant pot manual before using.
