Nothing says the Holidays are here like sipping on a decadent cup of Instant Pot Hot Chocolate! When I first made this hot chocolate, I knew I wouldn’t make it any other way ever again! It’s smooth, creamy and loaded with chocolate flavor with just a hint of cinnamon! This is the perfect drink to enjoy when the weather is too cold to go anywhere! I also bake cookies to go along with my hot chocolate and my favorite ones are these Mexican Sprinkle Sugar Cookies or these Blueberry Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Why Make Hot Chocolate In The Instant Pot?

The answer is simple! The easiest way to make hot chocolate is definitely in the Instant Pot! All you have to do is dump in all your ingredients, saute and set it to 2 minutes on high pressure! I know, I couldn’t believe it either! The Instant Pot also has a keep warm function which is great when you have a crowd over. Just make the hot chocolate then set it to keep warm once finished and let everyone self serve their hot chocolate whenever they’d like without worrying about heating it up again!

Ingredients

  • Milk
  • Heavy Cream
  • Evaporated Milk
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • White Granulated Sugar
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cinnamon Stick

Hot Cocoa for the Holidays

How To Make Instant Pot Hot Chocolate

  • First, start by turning on your Instant Pot and setting it to the saute function.
  • Next, add in the milk, heavy cream and evaporated milk. Stir to combine.
  • Add in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder and white granulated sugar. Stir for about 1 minute to melt the chocolate chips. Use a whisk to break up any lumps from the cocoa powder.
  • Next, add in the vanilla extract and cinnamon stick. Cancel the saute function and close the lid.
  • Cook on high pressure for 2 minutes.
  • Wait for it to natural release which should take about 10 minutes. Do not hit the quick release button because the hot chocolate will likely come spewing out.
  • Open the lid once the pin (valve) has dropped which means the pressure has been released.
  • Finally, give it another stir and serve it with marshmallows or toppings of your choice! Use the keep warm function until all of the hot chocolate in the instant pot is finished.

Tips & Variations

  • Make peppermint hot chocolate by adding 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract to your instant pot hot chocolate.
  • Spike your hot chocolate with 2 oz of bourbon for an adult friendly beverage!
  • Always read your Instant Pot manual before using it. I used an 8 qt Instant Pot for this recipe but if you own a smaller one, you may need to reduce liquid quantities. Make sure to never fill above the maximum fill line.
  • Do not skip the natural release! If you press the quick release button, the hot chocolate will likely splatter everywhere! I’d say this is probably the most important part of this recipe! Natural release means don’t press or do anything until all of the pressure from the instant pot has released on its’ own.
