Ingredients

Instructions

  • If your sausages are not cooked already, make sure to either bake them, pan fry or air fry until fully cooked before starting this recipe.
  • Heat enough oil in a pan to completely cover the sausages when frying. The oil should reach a temperature of 375 degrees F.
  • Cut the brats sausages into small 1 inch pieces.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, yellow cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, egg and stout beer.
  • Whisk until the batter is fully combined and thick.
  • Dip each bratwurst sausage into the batter and transfer to the oil to fry. Do not over crowd with too many sausages or the oil temperature will drop too low.
  • Deep fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes for each sausage.
  • Transfer to a cooling rack and serve with a drizzle of mustard.

Notes

  • Do not over mix the batter otherwise you won’t get the consistency you’re looking for.
  • Use a deep frying thermometer to check the oil temperature before cooking.
  • A good quality beer brand like Guinness works best for this recipe.
