First, start by preheating the air fryer to 365 degrees F for 5 minutes. In a bowl, beat the egg and water together to make the egg wash.
In a separate bowl, combine the apple pie filling and apple pie spice. Place the puff pastry sheets over parchment paper and cut each pastry sheet into 6 even sized pieces. Brush the edges of each pastry with the egg wash. Add about 1 – 1 1/2 tbsp of the apple pie filling to each pastry. Do not over fill. Bring together two opposite corners of the pastry and press together to close. Brush each turnover with more egg wash.
Transfer the turnovers to the air fryer and cook at 365 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until golden. In a bowl, combine the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and heavy cream. Whisk together to combine.
Top the turnovers with homemade vanilla icing and serve.
- I recommend serving with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce if you have them on hand.
- Thaw the puff pastry according to the package instructions before using.
- Apple pie spice can be found at most grocery stores in the spice aisle or in the seasonal aisle during the fall season. You can also purchase it here if you can’t find any.
