They’re loaded with fresh blueberries and chocolate chips then baked to golden perfection! My kids are crazy about trying new cookies! Banana Nutella Cookies are their absolute favorite to make when we have ripe bananas, but this week we had some extra blueberries and tried these blueberry chocolate chip cookies instead! What’s the deal with mixing fruit and chocolate anyway? It’s such an amazing combination that I sometimes wonder who came up with the idea originally! I really enjoy experimenting with different fruits and chocolate flavors! These Strawberry Cheesecake Cookies (Made from Scratch) are the result of one of those delicious experiments I conducted in my kitchen!
Ingredients
- Fresh Blueberries
- Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Flour
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- White Granulated Sugar
- Dark Brown Sugar
- Unsalted Butter
- Egg
- Vanilla Extract
How to Make Blueberry Chocolate Chip Cookies
- First, start by creaming together the room temperature butter, white granulated sugar and dark brown sugar. You can use a stand or hand mixer for this.
- Next, add in the egg and vanilla extract. Continue mixing to combine all the wet ingredients together.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Next, add the flour mixture to your mixing bowl about 1/4 cup at a time so you don’t end up with a cloud of flour dust everywhere. Continue mixing until all of the flour has incorporated into the wet ingredients. Scrape the extra flour from the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Now fold in the chocolate chips and blueberries gently being extra careful not to smash any of the blueberries in the process.
- Next, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F while you prepare to transfer the cookie dough to baking sheets.
- Prepare the baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper or spraying with non stick baking spray.
- Next, use a small 1 inch ice cream scoop and scoop out 1 inch balls of cookie dough. If you don’t have a small ice cream scoop, use a tablespoon. They’re about the same size. Transfer the cookie dough balls to the baking sheets.
- Bake the blueberry chocolate chip cookies in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes maximum.
- Next, remove them from the oven and let them sit undisturbed on the baking sheets for about 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a cooling rack to finish cooling down.
- Finally, serve the cookies with a cold glass of milk and enjoy!
How to Store Blueberry Chocolate Chip Cookies
Baked cookies should be stored in an air tight container at room temperature to preserve freshness. Store them for a maximum of 4 days or freeze them for up to 3 months. If you don’t want to bake all of the cookie dough in one shot, roll all of the dough into individual balls and place them on a baking sheet. Freeze them right on the baking sheet for 4 hours. Finally, remove them from the freezer and transfer the cookie dough balls to a zip loc bag or an air tight container and freeze for up to 3 months.
Tips & Variations
- It’s important not to over bake these blueberry chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are soft baked so they may look under cooked when you remove them from the oven, but I promise they will set nicely once they’ve cooled!
- Once you’ve added the fresh blueberries to the dough, be sure to handle them very gently. It’s very easy to accidentally smash the blueberries if you’re not careful enough.
- Alternatively, you may use dried blueberries if you’d like. I prefer the fresh blueberries because they pop right in your mouth when you bite into the cookie!
