This easy recipe for crockpot sausage apple stuffing makes the perfect Thanksgiving side dish.
It’s super convenient to use crockpots on Thanksgiving day to free up the stove and oven for other dishes. What I love most about this recipe is that it’s made with boxed stuffing mix but adding the sausage and apples kicks it up a notch and gives it that homemade flare. You could also use your slow cooker to make dessert this holiday season like this Crockpot Coconut Cream Cake or Crockpot Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate.

- Sweet Italian Sausage – Brown the sausage on the stove top before adding it to the slow cooker.
- Boxed Stuffing Mix – Pepperidge Farm is my favorite stuffing mix for this recipe.

- Sweet Onion, Garlic Clove, Butter – Chop the onion and mince the garlic clove, then saute with the Italian sausage.
- Chicken Broth – Pour the chicken broth into the crockpot.
- Poultry Seasoning, Salt, Pepper – Add the seasonings to the stuffing in the slow cooker.
How To Make Crockpot Sausage Apple Stuffing
- First, start by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic clove.
- Add the oil to a pan over medium heat.

- Add the stuffing mix, Italian sausage, chopped apple, butter slices, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper to the crockpot. Give it all a good mix to combine.
- Insert a double layer of paper towels under the lid to catch condensation and close. Cook on low for 2 – 2.5 hours.
- Fluff the stuffing with a fork and serve.
What Kind Of Apple Should I Use?
Crisp, sweet apples tend to work very well for this sausage apple stuffing recipe. In my opinion, Granny Smith apples are too tart. I used ginger gold apples because that’s what I had on hand. They have a mild, sweet taste with a crisp bite. Braeburn or Gala apples are best for this recipe so if you can find them, definitely use one of those instead.

- A 4 or 6 qt slow cooker works well for this recipe. If you’re using anything larger, you may need to either reduce the cooking time or double the recipe.
- This recipe is best when cooked on low. Cooking it on high may result in it burning very quickly on the bottom.
- Cooking times may vary depending on your slow cooker’s brand so check on it throughout the cooking process to make sure the bottom doesn’t burn.
