Enjoy these easy cinnamon roll donuts on a snow day with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

These cinnamon roll donuts are made with just 2 simple ingredients. Canned cinnamon buns and oil is all you’ll need for this recipe. Make sure the oil is nice and hot and fry them until golden. Drizzle with sweet cream cheese icing and serve immediately. These donuts are perfect for breakfast or a quick treat. I usually make them in the winter, but they’re great in the fall too, especially when served with pumpkin spice hot chocolate.

How To Make Cinnamon Roll Donuts

  1. First, start by pouring about 2 inches of oil into a large pot.
  2. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches about 355 degrees F. Use a kitchen thermometer to measure the temperature.
  3. Transfer the cinnamon rolls to a cutting board. Use a small round cookie cutter to cut a hole down the center of each cinnamon bun. Save those donut holes for frying.
  4. Fry the donuts and donut holes for 1-2 minutes on each side. Cook them in batches, about 3 at a time so the oil temperature doesn’t drop.
  5. Transfer the donuts to a paper towel lined plate to soak up the excess oil.
  6. Spread the cream cheese icing from the cinnamon roll canister over the donuts while they are still hot.
  7. Finally, serve and enjoy!

Making Sure The Temperature Is Right

Using a kitchen thermometer is the best way to know whether your oil has reached the correct temperature for frying. I found that 355 degrees F was perfect for frying these cinnamon bun donuts because the temperature will drop once you add in the cold dough. You don’t want the temperature to be too low otherwise you’ll end up with soggy donuts or burn them if the temperature is too high.

Decorating

If you’re feeling festive or making these for the holidays, add some Christmas sprinkles or any other topping you’d like.

What Kind Of Canned Buns Should I Use?

Most brands of canned cinnamon roll buns will work for this recipe. I do prefer the pillsbury brand with cream cheese icing or the Pillsbury grands cinnamon rolls.

Recipe Notes

  • Make sure the oil reaches the correct temperature before frying the donuts.
  • It’s not necessary to warm up the icing unless you are unable to ice them while they’re still hot.
  • Top them with your favorite holiday sprinkles or enjoy as is.
