Instant pot jasmine rice is a game changer! If you want to make fluffy and perfectly cooked long grain rice every single time, you have got to try this recipe. I make a big batch for the week and it is extremely convenient on busy days. I add minced garlic to my instant pot rice for some flavor and always receive compliments on it. Serve it alongside Instant Pot Swedish Meatballs or try it with this Brazilian style Instant Pot Oxtail Stew. If you don’t have an instant pot, try this easy stove top rice recipe instead.

Ingredients

  • Jasmine Rice – Thoroughly rinse the white rice in a fine mesh strainer until the liquid runs clear.
  • Oil, Water and Salt – Mix the ingredients in with the rice and cook.
  • Garlic Clove – Finely mince the garlic clove and stir it into the rice before cooking for flavor.
The ingredients needed are long grain jasmine rice, garlic, oil, salt and water.

How To Make Instant Pot Jasmine Rice

  1. Finely mince the garlic clove and set aside for now.
  2. Thoroughly rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer, running your fingers through it until the water runs clear.
  3. Add the rice, cold water, oil, salt and minced garlic to the instant pot. Stir everything together to mix, making sure to scrape any rice stuck to the sides of the inner pot.
  4. Close the lid and cook on high pressure for 4 minutes. Allow the instant pot to naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes. Release any remaining pressure by engaging the quick release button.
  5. Open the lid and fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

Why Add Garlic?

It’s common in Brazilian culture to add minced garlic and onions to rice, so this is the way my family enjoys it. Although, I rarely add onions. Adding garlic to white rice or really any kind of rice adds lots of delicious flavor but it can be omitted if it’s not your thing.

Storing Suggestions

Leftover cooked jasmine rice made in a pressure cooker should be stored in an air tight container once it has completely cooled. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Make a big batch of instant pot jasmine rice and store for easy meals throughout the week.

Recipe Notes

  • Minced garlic will add some flavor but you may omit it if you prefer.
  • Add salt according to taste.
  • An 8 qt instant pot was used for this recipe but it will also work in a 6 qt.
  • Always read your instant pot manual before using it.
