Would Crescent Dough Sheets Work?
You can certainly make this recipe with crescent dough sheets instead. I’d say that the texture would be similar to a cinnamon roll instead of an actual pastry. Make sure to follow the baking instructions on the packaging for the crescent dough.
Can I Prepare These Ahead?
These pastries freeze quite well so yes you can prepare them ahead of a big event like the holidays. Once your swirls have completely cooled, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and place them inside of an air tight container. Freeze for up to 1 month. Once you’re ready to thaw them, place in the oven at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until heated through. Do not top them with powdered sugar until you are ready to enjoy.
Recipe Notes
- Keep an eye on your pinwheels around the 15 minute mark as some ovens bake faster than others.
- Add chopped fruits or nuts to this recipe to kick it up a notch.
- Topping with powdered sugar is optional but very tasty.
- You can skip out on the parchment paper if you don’t have any and bake on a greased baking sheet but I do find that the bottom of the pastries tend to over bake without the greased parchment paper.
