The chimichurri is made completely from scratch with parsley, red chili pepper, lots of garlic and more! The flank steak is cooked to medium because that’s the way my family likes to eat steak. However, I’ve included tips in the recipe notes for different levels of steak doneness and internal temperatures. The air fryer really does make life so much easier! Why Make Steak In The Air Fryer?

Let’s start with how easy cleaning up is! Compare cleaning an air fryer with scrubbing pans and stove tops and you’ll be sold on the idea right away! I really love making flank steak and so much more in the air fryer because the food cooks evenly. An air fryer cooks food by blowing hot air through a fan. The air circulates around the food which promotes even cooking and crispy texture.  Some of my favorite deep fried foods have cooked very well in the air fryer which is a total win because I’m cutting out so many extra calories by omitting the oil.

Ingredients

  • Flank Steak
  • Olive Oil
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Red Chili
  • Parsley
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Salt
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Dried Oregano

How To Make Air Fryer Flank Steak With Chimichurri

  1. First, start by making the chimichurri. Remove the seeds from the chili pepper and finely chop.
  2. Finely chop the parsley and mince the garlic cloves.
  3. Next, add the chopped chili pepper, parsley and garlic to a bowl.
  4. Add olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, ground black pepper and dried oregano to the same bowl and mix well to combine.
  5. Reserve 1/3 cup of the chimichurri to marinate the steak.
  6. Chill the rest of the chimichurri in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
  7. Place the flank steak in a bowl or zip loc bag and add 1/3 cup of chimichurri to the steak making sure to coat it completely with the chimichurri. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  8. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  9. Place the marinated flank steak in the preheated air fryer and cook at 400 degrees F for 12 minutes. This is for medium doneness. I’ve included tips in the notes below for other levels of doneness. You don’t have to flip the steak over.
  10. Let the flank steak sit in the air fryer basket for 10 minutes before removing and serving.
  11. Finally, serve the air fryer flank steak and top with more chimichurri if desired.

Cooking Flank Steak in the Air Fryer and Topping with Chimichurri

Tips & Variations

  • Make sure to read your air fryer manual before cooking in it. There are many different brands and some will cook faster or slower than others. If you have a meat thermometer, check the flank steak’s internal temperature at the 10 minute mark to prevent over cooking.
  • This flank steak was cooked to medium doneness. For medium rare, cook for 10 minutes. Medium well should be ready in 13-14 minutes and well done takes 15 minutes.
  • You may also add cilantro to your chimichurri recipe if desired. Some people do like it this way, however the traditional version is made with just parsley.
