This Brazilian style air fryer picanha steak is juicy, easy to make and more delicious than you may think. Sprinkle the cuts of picanha with Brazilian rock sea salt then cook to your desired doneness. I love serving air fried picanha with this homemade chimichurri sauce on top. If you’d rather grill picanha instead of air frying, then this recipe is great for you!

Ingredients

  • Picanha Steak – In English, this steak is also known as rump cap or sirloin cap. Most Latin markets do carry it but it may be difficult to find at your standard grocery store.
  • Rock Sea Salt – For this recipe, I used this Brazilian rock sea salt and just sprinkled it on top before cooking it in the air fryer.
Ingredients to make air fried picanha

How To Make Air Fryer Picanha Steak

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  2. Cut the slab of picanha into 2 inch thick pieces of steak. Make sure to begin cutting at the top of the fat and work your way down.
  3. Sprinkle each piece of steak with Brazilian rock sea salt.
  4. Spray the inside of the air fryer with propellant free cooking spray or use air fryer parchment paper.
  5. Transfer the picanha steaks to the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees for 16 minutes, flipping halfway for medium well. For medium rare cook for 10-12 minutes.
  6. Serve with homemade chimichurri and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • It may be hard to find Picanha steak at regular grocery stores. Most Latin markets will typically carry this cut of meat but the closest you may find elsewhere is rump cap or sirloin cap.
  • Reduce the cooking time to achieve your desired doneness.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer’s brand.
