Make these delicious deep fried bratwurst sausage balls as an appetizer for your next game day event. This recipe is made with cooked brats sausages so it is very easy to make. I love drizzling them with a little mustard at the end for serving but you can get creative and use ketchup, hot sauce or any other desired sauces you enjoy. How To Make Deep Fried Bartwurst

  1. If your sausages are not cooked already, make sure to either bake them, pan fry or air fry until fully cooked before starting this recipe.
  2. Heat enough oil in a pan to completely cover the sausages when frying. The oil should reach a temperature of 375 degrees F.
  3. Cut the brats sausages into small 1 inch pieces.
  4. In a bowl, combine flour, yellow cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, egg and stout beer.
  5. Whisk until the batter is fully combined and thick.
  6. Dip each bratwurst sausage into the batter and transfer to the oil to fry. Do not over crowd with too many sausages or the oil temperature will drop too low.
  7. Deep fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes for each sausage.
  8. Transfer to a cooling rack and serve with a drizzle of mustard.

Recipes Notes

  • Do not over mix the batter otherwise you won’t get the consistency you’re looking for.
  • Use a deep frying thermometer to check the oil temperature before cooking.
  • A good quality beer brand like Guinness works best for this recipe.
