If this is your first time making a frozen margarita, don’t worry. I’m going to give you simple directions so you can make the best dragon fruit cocktail ever!

  • Dragon Fruit Smoothie Pack – I like using a frozen pitaya or dragon fruit smoothie pack for this dragon fruit margarita to give the drink that thick, frozen consistency.
  • Lime Juice – Use lime juice from a freshly squeezed lime to give the cocktail a fresh taste.
  • Simple Syrup – I prefer using simple syrup to ensure my dragon fruit drink has the smoothest texture possible.
  • Tequila – Use a good quality Blanco Tequila for this recipe.
  • Coconut Rum – Substitute the coconut rum for regular rum if you don’t have any. However, I really love the tropical taste from the coconut rum, so I highly recommend it.
  • White Granulated Sugar – Make the sugar rim for your glasses.
  • Ice – The ice is going to ensure your frozen dragon fruit margarita has a frozen, thick consistency. It also keeps your drink cold.
  • Fresh Dragon Fruit – Cut the dragon fruit into slices for garnishing.

Storing Suggestions

Make this pitaya or dragon fruit cocktail ahead and place it in an air tight container in the freezer for up to 3 months for best results. Once you’re ready to enjoy, simply remove from the container and serve. The texture of the drink will not be impacted.

Tips & Variations

  • Substitute the sugar rim for a salt rim if desired. I prefer a sweet rim for this dragon fruit cocktail, but you can substitute for salt if that’s your preference.
  • Use a good quality blender for this recipe. A strong blender like this one will ensure your frozen ingredients get blended in well with the other ingredients.
  • If you don’t have dragon fruit smoothie packs, substitute for 1/2 cup of frozen dragon fruit pulp or dragon fruit chunks.
  • I used Cruzan Coconut Rum and Blanco Tequila for this recipe.
