Homemade spicy voodoo seasoning is the perfect spice for almost any recipe. I’ve used these spices to make these spicy smashed voodoo potatoes and even this voodoo shrimp recipe. It’s packed with all kinds of spices like chili, cayenne and more. It’s also the perfect rub for ribs, steak and pretty much anything else. Such an awesome addition to your spice rack!

Ingredients

  • Brown Sugar – I’m using dark brown sugar to make this voodoo spice recipe because it helps to tenderize the meat making it a great dry rub for grilling
  • Smoked Paprika, Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, Chili Powder, Cayenne Pepper – A combination of these spices makes this seasoning recipe extra spicy
  • Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Basil, Parsley – Add extra flavor with some of these dried herbs
Mix together all of the spices seen in this photo to make the seasoning

How To Make Spicy Voodoo Seasoning

  1. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, regular paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, chili powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, dried basil, dried parsley, ground black pepper and white pepper.
  2. Use a whisk to mix together the spices, making sure to break up any large lumps from the brown sugar.
  3. Transfer the prepared voodoo seasoning to an air tight container like a mason jar and use to season your favorite foods.
Voodoo seasoning can be stored in an air tight mason jar for up to 6 months

Recipe Notes

  • Store the voodoo seasoning in an air tight container for up to 6 months for optimal taste and freshness. A small mason jar works really well for storing.
  • To make it extra spicy, you may add up to 1 additional tbsp of cayenne pepper to this recipe
  • I’ve been asked if light brown sugar can be substituted in the place of dark brown sugar, however I wouldn’t recommend it. Dark brown sugar works really well for tenderizing meat because it contains more moisture than other types of sugar.
